So do try it the next time you are having fish.
COOKING TIME: 45 minutes to 1 hour
SERVINGS: 3 serves
INGREDIENTS:
- Fish: 0.5 kg
- Oil: 1 tablespoon
- Fenugreek seeds(menthi): 10-15 seeds
- Garlic cloves: 15-20
- Cumin seeds(zeera): 1/4 teaspoon
- Onion: 2 medium sized
- Turmeric powder(haldi): 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder(dhaniya powder): 1 teaspoon
- Fenugreek powder(menthi powder): 1/4 teaspoon
- Chilly powder: 3 teaspoon
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Water: 250ml
- Tamarind: 1/2 fistful
PREPARATION:
1. Firstly we need to wash the fish. Whether it’s raw fish or frozen one, wash the fish 4-5 times. First add 3-4 teaspoons of salt to the fish and some water, wash them properly and throw away this water. And repeat this step for 3-4 times.
2. Then add 2 teaspoons of oil to the fish and some water, wash them properly and throw away the water.
3. Then add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder, salt and chilly powder to the fish and marinate it for 10-15 minutes.
4.Meanwhile the fish is marinating, take the tamarind and some add water to it. If you have time let the tamarind be in water for 10-15 minutes or else you can heat the tamarind in water for 2 minutes. Then remove the pulp of tamarind and keep the water aside.
5. Now, take garlic cloves and add the cumin seeds to it. Grind them together and our garlic-cumin mixture will be ready
6. Also, cut the onions and grind them, so our onion paste will be ready.
PROCEDURE:
1. When all the preparations are done, add oil to the utensil and ON the stove. Note: don’t use iron utensils for cooking this curry as there will be tamarind in it.
2. Then add menthi seeds and wait for 30 seconds.
3. Then add garlic-cumin mixture and wait for 2minutes.
4. Then add onion paste and wait till it turns light brown.
5. Then add 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder and 1/4 teaspoon of fenugreek powder. Wait for 2minutes.
6. Then add the marinated fish. Mix it slowly and wait for 2-3 minutes.
7. Then add the 250ml of water or add more water based on the consistency you want for the curry. Also, add the tamarind water. Keep the flame high.
8. Mix the curry smoothly, as the fish will be delicate and if we mix it strongly the fish will become into pieces.
9. The curry will be boiling as in the picture, it indicates that the curry is done.
10. Off the stove and immediately remove the utensil from the stove and keep it in another place and just add some water to the bottom of the utensil, so that the heat will be reduced and the fish won’t cook more.
11. And our fish curry is ready.
